Delaware stands out for the size of its fine. Its Division of Motor Vehicles says that driving without proper insurance brings, on conviction, at least $1,500 for a first offense and $3,000 for each later offense within three years, plus a six-month suspension of the license. A lapse with no traffic stop also costs money: the agency receives notices from insurers, may audit you, and charges $100 per vehicle for 1 to 30 days uninsured and $5 a day after that, with a $50 reinstatement fee per registration if it suspends. Section 2118 of Title 21 adds a second required layer: personal injury protection of at least $15,000 per person and $30,000 per accident. Form FR-19 is what your insurer sends to certify continuous cover. Of the property lines we read, only Pennsylvania's $5,000 is lower than Delaware's $10,000.

What the three numbers mean in Delaware

The figure to watch here is the last one: $10,000 of property cover is thin against the price of one late-model car, whatever the injury limits say.

$25,000 is the most the policy pays for one injured person. $50,000 is the most it pays for everyone hurt in the crash. $10,000 is the most it pays for the other car and anything else you damage.

Not verified means that we did not read the rule on an official page. It does not mean that the rule is absent, and we do not infer at-fault status from silence. Ask the state before relying on a blank.

Questions people ask

What is the minimum car insurance in Delaware?

Delaware requires liability limits of at least $25,000 for injury to one person, $50,000 per accident for injuries, and $10,000 for property damage, written 25/50/10. We read these figures on an official state page on November 2, 2026. Other coverages may apply: see what we could verify on this page, and confirm with the state.

Is 25/50/10 enough coverage in Delaware?

It is the legal floor, not a measure of risk. If one person's injuries cost $75,000, a $25,000 limit leaves $50,000 that can be claimed from you personally. Enter your own scenario in the tool above to see the amount. This is arithmetic on your figures, not insurance advice.

What else does Delaware require or enforce besides these limits?

Delaware stands out for the size of its fine. Its Division of Motor Vehicles says that driving without proper insurance brings, on conviction, at least $1,500 for a first offense and $3,000 for each later offense within three years, plus a six-month suspension of the license.
