Washington's RCW 46.29.090 sets at least $25,000 for one person, $50,000 for two or more and $10,000 for property. The insurance duty and its proof are in chapter 46.30. Under RCW 46.30.020, failing to provide proof creates a presumption that you have no insurance and is a traffic infraction, with the amount set by the supreme court under RCW 46.63.110, which we did not read. The section includes a way out: if you show the court that you were insured at the time, the charge is dismissed, and the court may charge administrative costs of $25. You may do this before the hearing date rather than appear in person. Proof shown on a phone is allowed, and the officer may view only the proof itself. The $10,000 property line matches Vermont's and Wisconsin's, and it sits well below the $25,000 common elsewhere.

What the three numbers mean in Washington

The figure to watch here is the last one: $10,000 of property cover is thin against the price of one late-model car, whatever the injury limits say.

$25,000 is the most the policy pays for one injured person. $50,000 is the most it pays for everyone hurt in the crash. $10,000 is the most it pays for the other car and anything else you damage.

Questions people ask

What is the minimum car insurance in Washington?

Washington requires liability limits of at least $25,000 for injury to one person, $50,000 per accident for injuries, and $10,000 for property damage, written 25/50/10. We read these figures on an official state page on November 2, 2026. Other coverages may apply: see what we could verify on this page, and confirm with the state.

Is 25/50/10 enough coverage in Washington?

It is the legal floor, not a measure of risk. If one person's injuries cost $75,000, a $25,000 limit leaves $50,000 that can be claimed from you personally. Enter your own scenario in the tool above to see the amount. This is arithmetic on your figures, not insurance advice.

What else does Washington require or enforce besides these limits?

Washington's RCW 46.29.090 sets at least $25,000 for one person, $50,000 for two or more and $10,000 for property. The insurance duty and its proof are in chapter 46.30. Under RCW 46.30.020, failing to provide proof creates a presumption that you have no insurance and is a traffic infraction, with the amount set by the supreme court under RCW 46.63.110, which we did not read.
