Kentucky is the clearest case of choice in what we read. Under KRS 304.39-060, anyone who registers or drives a vehicle on public roads is deemed to accept a partial abolition of tort liability, meaning bodily injury claims are limited to the extent basic reparation benefits are payable. The section is titled acceptance or rejection, so a driver can step outside it, and its exceptions matter: read the text before relying on either position. KRS 304.39-110 then allows two ways to meet the minimum. One is split limits of $25,000 per person, $50,000 per accident and $25,000 for property. The other is a single limit of $60,000 for all damages in one accident. Kentucky is therefore the only state we read that states a combined figure on the same line as the split one. The penalty section was not read, so we show none.

What the three numbers mean in Kentucky

This is the most common pattern among the states we read, shared with 11 others, so a policy from one of them normally fits without change.

$25,000 is the most the policy pays for one injured person. $50,000 is the most it pays for everyone hurt in the crash. $25,000 is the most it pays for the other car and anything else you damage.

Questions people ask

What is the minimum car insurance in Kentucky?

Kentucky requires liability limits of at least $25,000 for injury to one person, $50,000 per accident for injuries, and $25,000 for property damage, written 25/50/25. We read these figures on an official state page on November 2, 2026. Other coverages may apply: see what we could verify on this page, and confirm with the state.

Is 25/50/25 enough coverage in Kentucky?

It is the legal floor, not a measure of risk. If one person's injuries cost $75,000, a $25,000 limit leaves $50,000 that can be claimed from you personally. Enter your own scenario in the tool above to see the amount. This is arithmetic on your figures, not insurance advice.

What else does Kentucky require or enforce besides these limits?

Kentucky is the clearest case of choice in what we read. Under KRS 304.39-060, anyone who registers or drives a vehicle on public roads is deemed to accept a partial abolition of tort liability, meaning bodily injury claims are limited to the extent basic reparation benefits are payable.
