Kansas folds personal injury protection into the liability policy itself. K.S.A. 40-3107 requires 25/50/25 and also requires those benefits, so they are not an extra sold later. The definitions in 40-3103 set medical benefits at not less than $4,500, rehabilitation at not less than $4,500, disability at not less than $900 a month for up to a year, funeral benefits up to $2,000 and substitution benefits up to $25 a day for up to 365 days. Annotations to the section refer to a no-fault insurance act. Penalties are in 40-3104: a class B misdemeanor, with a fine from $300 to $1,000, up to six months in the county jail, or both. A second conviction within three years becomes a class A misdemeanor with a fine from $800 to $2,500. The same section provides for suspending license and registration.

What the three numbers mean in Kansas

This is the most common pattern among the states we read, shared with 11 others, so a policy from one of them normally fits without change.

$25,000 is the most the policy pays for one injured person. $50,000 is the most it pays for everyone hurt in the crash. $25,000 is the most it pays for the other car and anything else you damage.

Questions people ask

What is the minimum car insurance in Kansas?

Kansas requires liability limits of at least $25,000 for injury to one person, $50,000 per accident for injuries, and $25,000 for property damage, written 25/50/25. We read these figures on an official state page on November 2, 2026. Other coverages may apply: see what we could verify on this page, and confirm with the state.

Is 25/50/25 enough coverage in Kansas?

It is the legal floor, not a measure of risk. If one person's injuries cost $75,000, a $25,000 limit leaves $50,000 that can be claimed from you personally. Enter your own scenario in the tool above to see the amount. This is arithmetic on your figures, not insurance advice.
