West Virginia's section 17D-4-2 shows two sets of figures: 20/40 for an earlier period and the current $25,000 for one person, $50,000 for two or more and $25,000 for property. Policies in effect on December 31, 2015 at the old amounts are treated separately in the same section. Enforcement in section 17D-2A-7 is by the commissioner. On a first offense, the driver's license is suspended for 30 days and the vehicle registration revoked until proof is presented. An owner who shows proof and pays a $200 penalty fee before the effective date avoids both, with no reinstatement fee. A second or later offense within five years brings a 90-day suspension, and revocation until proof is given. The commissioner can also withdraw an action and refund fees when satisfied there was no violation, so an answer backed by paperwork is worth sending.

What the three numbers mean in West Virginia
This is the most common pattern among the states we read, shared with 11 others, so a policy from one of them normally fits without change.
$25,000 is the most the policy pays for one injured person. $50,000 is the most it pays for everyone hurt in the crash. $25,000 is the most it pays for the other car and anything else you damage.

Not verified means that we did not read the rule on an official page. It does not mean that the rule is absent, and we do not infer at-fault status from silence. Ask the state before relying on a blank.
