Georgia's Insurance Commissioner lists the minimum liability limits as $25,000 per person and $50,000 per incident for bodily injury and $25,000 per incident for property damage, and the office's auto guide writes them as 25/50/25. Physical damage cover is not required by law, though a lender or leasing company usually requires it. The Department of Revenue enforces the rule through the registration: owners must keep continuous Georgia liability insurance on any actively registered vehicle, and a gap of 10 days or more between two policies counts as a lapse. Each lapse brings a $25 fine, up to $160 more if that fine is not paid within 30 days, and suspension or revocation of the registration. Driving while the registration is suspended is a criminal offense. For a car that is off the road, the department says to cancel the registration before cancelling the insurance. The commissioner's guide adds that a company cannot non-renew a policy held three years or more over a single claim, even one where you were at fault.

What the three numbers mean in Georgia

This is the most common pattern among the states we read, shared with 11 others, so a policy from one of them normally fits without change.

$25,000 is the most the policy pays for one injured person. $50,000 is the most it pays for everyone hurt in the crash. $25,000 is the most it pays for the other car and anything else you damage.

Questions people ask

What is the minimum car insurance in Georgia?

Georgia requires liability limits of at least $25,000 for injury to one person, $50,000 per accident for injuries, and $25,000 for property damage, written 25/50/25. We read these figures on an official state page on November 3, 2026. Other coverages may apply: see what we could verify on this page, and confirm with the state.

Is 25/50/25 enough coverage in Georgia?

It is the legal floor, not a measure of risk. If one person's injuries cost $75,000, a $25,000 limit leaves $50,000 that can be claimed from you personally. Enter your own scenario in the tool above to see the amount. This is arithmetic on your figures, not insurance advice.

What else does Georgia require or enforce besides these limits?

Georgia's Insurance Commissioner lists the minimum liability limits as $25,000 per person and $50,000 per incident for bodily injury and $25,000 per incident for property damage, and the office's auto guide writes them as 25/50/25.
