Louisiana's figures come from the legislature's own text, because the state insurance department refused our declared reader. Revised Statute 32:900 sets $15,000 for one person, $30,000 for two or more people and $25,000 for property, a mix found nowhere else in our table: the injury lines equal Pennsylvania's, while the property line is five times Pennsylvania's $5,000. Section 32:861 makes the registered owner responsible for keeping that security on every self-propelled vehicle registered in the state, and also allows a bond or a $55,000 cash deposit with the state treasurer. When the secretary finds a vehicle uninsured, section 32:863 calls for revoking the registration, impounding the vehicle and cancelling the plate until proof is shown, with reinstatement fees of $100, $250 or $500 as the lapse runs up to 30 days, up to 90 days or longer. Section 32:866 adds a rule few drivers expect: an owner or driver without the required security cannot recover the first $100,000 of bodily injury or the first $100,000 of property damage after a crash, with exceptions such as another driver who flees or is convicted of driving while intoxicated.

What the three numbers mean in Louisiana

Louisiana sits at the low end of what we read: 35 states ask for more per person. A policy bought here at the floor can fall short the day its owner moves away.

$15,000 is the most the policy pays for one injured person. $30,000 is the most it pays for everyone hurt in the crash. $25,000 is the most it pays for the other car and anything else you damage.

Questions people ask

What is the minimum car insurance in Louisiana?

Louisiana requires liability limits of at least $15,000 for injury to one person, $30,000 per accident for injuries, and $25,000 for property damage, written 15/30/25. We read these figures on an official state page on November 3, 2026. Other coverages may apply: see what we could verify on this page, and confirm with the state.

Is 15/30/25 enough coverage in Louisiana?

It is the legal floor, not a measure of risk. If one person's injuries cost $45,000, a $15,000 limit leaves $30,000 that can be claimed from you personally. Enter your own scenario in the tool above to see the amount. This is arithmetic on your figures, not insurance advice.

What else does Louisiana require or enforce besides these limits?
